Project:

Perivale Bus Facility New

The Brief:

To create a new bus and engineering workshop, with facilities including 3 single bus length pits and 1 double bus length pit, brake testing facility, associated stores facility and an operations and office block. Perivale was to be the first such facility to be built in London for 20 years.

The Team:

Belfry were requested by the client to put together a team to handle the project. We recommended the Architect, Structural and Service Engineers and were closely involved with the definition and interpretation of the clients requirements from its very earliest stages.

Specific challenges:

  • The presence of a large water main across the site of the proposed building and the proximity to the central line railway and a water course required liaison and approvals from London Underground, the river and water authorities to ensure safe working and good practice.
  • The demolition of an existing building including the removal of all asbestos.
  • The installation of many specialised services including compressed air, fume extract and forced lubrication installations.

The Result:

The finished facility was opened by the Mayor of London on 13th November 2003.
